Donna Karan Stepping Down
Posted on August 04 2015
I’m sure you all know by now that Donna Karan has stepped down as chief designer of her company. It was a sad day but let’s remember her. Donna Karan will always be remembered for the bodysuit. She did not invent it but she made it not only an essential garment to own but kept it sleek in order to layer upon it for each look one wanted to create.
Karan launched her brand in 1984 with “Seven Easy Pieces.” These seven pieces were flattering, flexible, and interchangeable so a woman could wear them day or night. The base layer of all these pieces was the bodysuit. At the time, Karan was revolutionary and changed the way women dressed to a more modern approach. She strived to give women something else to wear so they did not have to rely on the male counterpart suit available to women at the time. Imagine a men’s suit with shoulder pads and a skirt instead of pants- you’ll get the picture.
Karan said in 1985, “So many women find assembling the right clothes bewildering today.” She designed knit pieces that stretched and draped with varying hemlines and adjustable waists to fit every woman. These pieces could be tied over her signature bodysuit and worn to the woman’s liking. She reinvented the working woman's wardrobe and we need to thank her every day for that.
Donna Karan’s pieces are made to sustain changing styles and be a staple piece in your closet that you reinvent every time you wear it. They are sure to be pieces that you will pass down through the generations. The draping is perfectly thought out and very flattering for every woman. The second dress can be worn a million different ways. Look at this blog to see the different ways to style the dress. Check out these two pieces available on Mulberry Muse and add them to your wardrobe before they’re gone!
