Interview with Makeup Artist Daffne Mora (@daffnem_)
Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
I'm a passionate makeup artist and I’ve been in the industry for four years now. I’m also really passionate about body positivity and women empowerment.
What influenced you to become a makeup artist?
I’ve always been into makeup and interested in it, but what mainly pushed me to become a makeup artist is the fact that just with a touch of lipstick I can help someone feel more confident about themselves.
Did you go to beauty school or were you self-taught?
In 2017 I went to a makeup school in Dallas to get certified.
How would you describe your signature look?
My signature look would be super glowy skin, super colorful, and an incredible amount of blush.Name three makeup products you cannot live without & why.
I cannot live without concealer, mascara and blush. I feel like those three products make me look awake and fresh.
What skincare products do you recommend?
The skincare products I recommend are by the brand Good Molecules. About 3 months ago I started using their products and I noticed a difference in my skin. I have super dry skin so their facial oils really helped my skin.
Any makeup do’s and don’ts?
This is a hard question because to me there are no rules to makeup. If bright wearing green eyeshadow and blue lipstick make you feel good so be it. But If I had to say one it would be with the brows. I don’t like blocky or sharpie brows. Always try to make your brows as natural looking as possible. I don’t mean to be light with the makeup, but to make the brow look real. How you can achieve that is with a brow pencil and by doing hair-like strokes on your brow to give it a fluffy look.
What has been your favorite shoot so far?
I love all the shoots I’ve been a part of, but my favorite would have to be a recent one I just did with the photographer @polarach. The name of it was “EROS” I did a super blown out red shadow with red gems all over the model's lid, temple, and cheekbone. It was just such a sultry look and the final result was just breathtaking.
If you could work with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
I would love to work with Zendaya, Indya Moore, and with many plus-size models. I just love what they stand for and that I feel I could be super creative and create fun editorial looks. What inspires you today?
What inspires me is to honestly inspire others. I’ve been on a self-love journey myself and I share it with my followers so they can see they can be confident too. I’m a plus size girl and it was so hard for me to find self-confidence, but what helped me a lot and gave me a boost was following plus-size models and body-positive pages. So I just want to help other girls the way I was.
Any tips for aspiring makeup artists?
My tip would be is to be consistent with your work. Practice a lot and take pictures of it so you can see your progress. Post all your makeup looks cause someone is going to like it and they could hire you.
Where can we keep up with you?
You can find me on Instagram @daffnem_ that’s where I post all my work.
